An elderly man who looked like he was dying told them that there was a huge sweetfish, the likes of which no one had ever seen, lurking in the depths of the Hayakawa River. The middle-aged man was skeptical at first, but one day he saw the existence of giant ayu with his own eyes, and before he knew it, he became obsessed with giant ayu fishing. A strange friendship is formed between a middle-aged fisherman and a man who barks on his deathbed, ``I won't give him over to anyone else,'' and the story goes to the end.
